Levi LaVallee was injured while practicing for his planned world record snowmobile distance jump at this year’s Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. Unfortunately, due to LaVallee’s injury the event has been cancelled. However, that doesn’t mean a new snowmobile distance record hasn’t been set.

Leading up to the event, LaVallee, who is expected to make a full recovery, worked with athlete performance experts, aerodynamics experts and engineers, in addition to his core team, in an effort to get the most out of his body and snowmobile. During testing, LaVallee jumped an astounding 361 feet, eclipsing the existing record by 60 feet. This jump will be submitted for world record certification.

In a series of 22 locations across the Snowbelt, Arctic Cat, Polaris and Yamaha will show off their new models for 2012. Most are free admission events that will display 15-18 sleds from each manufacturer.

That’s more than 50 new snowmobiles on one show floor all at the same time.

Snowmobilers can see, touch, sit on and inspect the sleds that will be at their dealer in the fall.

Also, final decisions on taking advantage of the special incentives that are offered during the spring buying programs can be made with first hand inspection of the various models.

Check out the full 22-city schedule below the jump.

If you’ve ever wanted to know how a snowmobile is put together this is your lucky day. Polaris has put together a video of a 2011 Switchback Assault 144 being assembled at its plant in Roseau, Minn.

Polaris uses an interesting mix of manpower and robotics to get a finished product. We found it fascinating to watch it all come together.
