Panasonic is not shy about putting its Toughbook line of personal computers in harm’s way. Last year a video was released of a Toughbook being dragged behind an ATV. This time around they chose to use a snowmobile to test out the computer’s durability.

According to Panasonic, the Toughbook 19 was the computer of choice for this application. Panasonic claims that only one computer was used in the production of the video.

It’s nice to know that those freestyle snowmobilers who fly down mountains and jump over trees can screw up too. It makes us feel a little better about our shortcomings on a sled to see the pros crash and burn once in a while.

YouTube recently turned up a gem of a video showing some of these crashes and we thought you’d like to see them too. According to the YouTube description, these awesome snowmobile wipeouts came from the film Alticity 7. We may have to check that one out.

From the looks of things, Arctic Cat is planning what could turn out to be the party of the year for snowmobilers and other powersports enthusiasts.

Arctic Cat’s 50th Anniversary celebration is scheduled to take place on July 29 and 30 in Thief River Falls, Minn. Upwards of 5,000 people are expected to attend and the weekend promises to be packed with Arctic Cat action.

Full details of the event are expected in the coming weeks, but Arctic Cat promises vintage and current product displays, races teams/haulers, a huge Team Arctic autograph session, bands, factory tours, and much more.

While BRP is well known for producing Ski-Doo snowmobiles that can tackle a wide variety of terrain, the Quebec-based manufacturer is now working on off-road vehicles that can be used in much harder to reach places – like Mars.

BRP will help develop a chassis and locomotion system for a Lunar Exploration Light Rover and a Mars Exploration Science Rover. BRP was awarded $5.6 million in contracts by MacDonald Dettwiler and Associated Ltd. (MDA) after they received the mandate of two contracts by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) for the design, development, construction and testing of advanced space vehicles under the CSA’s Exploration Surface Mobility Program.

Terrestrial prototypes of the rovers will be constructed from advanced aluminum alloys with electric propulsion systems powered by battery and, in the case of the Mars rover, solar energy. They will also be capable of integrating hydrogen fuel cells.

Torchmate Racing Tyler Thomas and Matt Shrive will compete in the 2011 Tesoro Arctic Man Friday April 8, 2011 in Summit Lake, Alaska approximately 280 miles north east of Anchorage.

A combination of downhill skiing and snowmobiling, Arctic Man is a 5.5 mile race that only takes 4.5 minutes to complete.

“I asked Matt one day at work ‘Hey Matt, do you want to go 100mph behind my sled holding onto a 15ft rope?’ His answer was ‘Yea, sure I will!’ Not your average guy wants to go 100+ on a snowboard let alone behind a snowmobile, so I knew I had the missing link to make this dream happen!,” says Thomas.

Shrive, X-Games and World Cup snowboarder, will start at the top of the 5,800-foot mountain and will drop 1,700 feet within two miles into a canyon. When Shrive hits the canyon, Thomas will meet up with him on the snowmobile at speed and connect the two with a towrope. The pair will continue uphill for about two miles hitting speeds close to 100mph. At the top of the second mountain, the pair separates and Shrive will drop down another 1200 feet to the finish line.
