Scheuring Speed Sports got off to a good start at the ISOC Michigan Nataional ahead of the AMSOIL Pro Open final. Darrin Mees was the top qualifier for the final and Robbie Malinoski was the fastest man on the track, but a melee in the first corner saw the floor of the Pontiac Silverdome turn into a snowmobile salvage operation.

Both riders rejoined the battle a lap down to the leader, but to the amazement of the nearly 20,000 spectators on hand, were able to pass competitors at will throughout the next 28 laps, rebounding for solid fifth and seventh place finishes.

Malinoski actually caught and passed the race winner to get back on the lead lap but ran out of time in his efforts to make more ground.

The weekend started with a number of opportunities to showcase the team at greater Detroit area schools where two Race to the Future scholarships were presented in conjunction with local U.S. Air Force recruiters. On Thursday night, the riders took part in a Traxxas team party at Larry’s Performance R/C in Sterling Heights, handing out Rockstar samples, along with race tickets and team graphics packages. To close out the night, Malinoski sat in on two live radio segments at Detroit’s WYCD 95.5 FM.

The team leaves Wednesday for the historic Grand Prix de Valcourt in Quebec, birthplace of the Ski-Doo snowmobile and headquarters for sponsor BRP. The following week it is back to the rescheduled ISOC Vision Kia Eastern National in Farmington, NY on Feb. 24-25.
