Swain Tech coatings for pistons
Coating protects weakest component in high performance engines
Story by Snowmobile.com Staff, Oct. 30, 2008
Aluminum piston skirts can be coated to be virtually indestructible with PC-9, which contains a high percentage of tungsten and molydisulfide. These and other proprietary ingredients reduce friction, wear and scuffing on piston skirts. PC-9 is a conductive material and dissipates piston skirt heat while it reduces friction with permanent lubrication. It is ideal for engines under stress as in racing snowmobiles, motorcycles and all piston driven engines.

Swain offers two other coatings for piston domes. TBC Thermal Barrier Coating is designed for normally aspirated performance engines and GoldCoat is formulated for nitrous and turbo engine piston domes. These coatings are only .002-inches thin but can eliminate hot spots, holing, detonation and pre-ignition because the melting flame front never comes in contact with the low melt piston material.
Skirt coatings start at $18.00 per piston and dome coating starts at $24.50 — low cost protection for expensive performance engines.
Swain Tech Coatings is the only major, national provider of White Lightning Exhaust Coating and permanent ceramic protection for pistons, exhaust ports and head components.
