We know its August and you’re probably pining for the snow to start falling so you can get out and ride again. Well, that’s not going to happen for a while, so how about you just relax and watch somebody else play in the snow.

What we’ve got here, however, isn’t your typical snowmobile video. In fact, there is not really a snowmobile anywhere to be seen. What we do have is a Subaru Impreza WRX STI outfitted with snowmobile-like tracks and tearing up the snow like few vehicles could.

What does the future of snowmobiling hold? We sure don’t know, but we did recently find a slideshow of a dozen snowmobile-like contraptions that may hold provide a glimpse of things to come.

The slideshow, put together by Trendhunter.com, shows 12 different articles/videos about a variety of snow-capable vehicles. Some are just concepts or art projects, while others are vehicles in use today.

Like playing around in the snow, but don’t want to leave the comfort of your own car? You may be the only one, but that hasn’t stopped a Russian company from trying to fill the void.

The Snow Foot Car is a platform of sorts for your car. It features two enormous wheels in the back and one big ski in the front outfitted with two shocks. In what we could glean from the YouTube video (available after the jump), the Snow Foot Car conversion is pretty straightforward – you take off you rear wheels and hook them up to the chain drive of the Snow Foot Car. How exactly you’re supposed to accomplish all this isn’t entirely clear, but the result is at least interesting.

The “Armstead Snow Motor” concept was developed in the early 1920’s.  They took a tractor, removed the wheels and then was mounted on two revolving cylinders that had a rubber coil on them to get it through the snow.

Check it out in action after the jump.

Not sure if this part motorcycle, part snowmobile concept will ever make it into production but its certainly interesting.  They have taken a Triumph Threemotard 675 motorcycle, a bike out of the U.K., and placed a caterpillar track on the back with spikes on the front tire, if it ever does come to life we will make sure our snowmobile.com editor, Jerry Bassett, gets his hand on one for a review.
