A new world record for distance travelled in 24 hours on a snowmobile has been unofficially set by Dustin Shoemaker of Greenup, Illinois.

Shoemaker hopped on his snowmobile at 9am on Tuesday, February 9 and completed 1,474 miles in 24 hours – 67 miles further than the previous record.

According to Shoemaker, he was riding to raise awareness for a rare form of liver cancer (Biliary Atresia) that is being suffered by his daughter, Hannah.

Shoemaker’s record ride comes just a week before Toronto native Matt Weidinger makes his record-breaking attempt.
