2007 Yamaha Phazer GT

Lot's of fun. Small package!

I bought my GT early in 2007. No new model is without bugs. There was two recall for the Phazer. One being the safety clip at the steering collector and the second being the nuts that hold the ski spindle. The two large holes in the tunnel, presumably for exhaust cooling were a pain. Lots of ic...e buildup in the tunnel and running boards. The rear suspension on this sled is quite soft, one could collapse to the bump stops by hand. Thankfully there are the FX model springs that are stiffer and GYTR race kit are the stiffest. Yamaha's Anti-bottoming kit is but a Band-Aid and the overall suspension should be removed and re-valved to your weight. The stock GT shocks are decent in the front but poor in the rear probably to safe manufacturing costs. I use an Ohlins in the Center and the FX model rear shock with the reservoir. The front scissor arms are prone to breakage along with the pivot link that provides coupling. I've been lucky with the front arm but I have reinforced the pivot. All in all the front end provides preload adjustability only but they are rebuildable. The rear provides approx. 14.5" of travel.
At 80hp, this sled hauls ass. All of the torque can immediately be felt in the low to mid rpm range. Granted, sailing down the lake you may only get 120 km/h out of it but that's at 11,800 rpm!
A legit high performance exhaust and intake kit for this sled unlocks even more torque and is certainly more affordable and worthwhile then buying a turbo. Granted the Turbo will get you 160 hp it costs thousands and you may as well buy a Nytro or an Apex.
Reliability is decent too. My biggest gripe is the ease of maintenance. Any significant job on this sled requires quite a bit of disassembly. Changing the oil can take up to 2 hours.

The sled has a high center of gravity so one must consider how one will ride when thinking about buying this sled. Ironically, like the old Phazer's it will rail a corner but you must lean well into the curve, don't and you will be rewarded with the "it's gonna tip over" feeling. Also the 07's did not come with an engine brake reduction, so you will rarely need to use the brake on this sled. Most cases letting off the throttle causes abrupt deceleration from the engine, later models had a mechanism to make the sled feel more like a 2 stroke when you let off the throttle.

The Phazer is unique in every way. A lot like a dirt bike for the snow. Especially with it's dirtbike foundation. The Phazer is a total blast to ride, 7 years later and I still wouldn't ride anything else. Read Full Review

Amazing snowmobile.

I bought this snowmobile in 200and it still runs like it is brand new!. i put a turbocharger on the sled and i topped it out at 120pmh! You can fully adjust the suspend and the windshield keeps all that unwanted wind out of you face. This sled overall is great and i strongly reccomend you to get i...t you don't want to change you plugs often, if you want good gas mileage and if you want a comfortable ride on the trails.

2007 Phazer GT

Designed for Groomed Trail usage hence the moniker.

I bought this sled in 07 brand new. It provides a riding experience that cannot be compared to anything out there both then and now. The new engine is built from the YZF-250 Motocross bike, basically two stuck together. This is not an chassie b...uilt around a cengine but instead everything about this machine is purpose built. The factory suspension is not so great for riders weighing over 180lbs. The factory steel-bodied shocks suck for lack of a better word. The FX model shocks which provide better dampening and are rebuildable is what I swapped in. The GT features a 20 tooth top gear that allows for greater top end and better fuel mileage. This is a low maintenance machine requiring an oil change every 2 years and a filter change ever 20,000km. The expereince of riding a Phazer is compareable to riding a Dirt Bike on snow. The only downfall other then suspension is ease of maintenance- most jobs require quite a bit of disassembly. Once may expedite this by removing the front frame which is not described in the manual but instructions are available on Totally 4 stroke. The other is center of gravity. The sled features a tall handle bar and rider forward positioning. Railing a corner requires significant body language to avoid roll-over but all in all this sled is a great value and is a blast to ride. Read Full Review

Sled has an extreme lack of power. my stock phazer probably tops out at around 85. performance off trail is ok. Sled has trouble floating on snow. but when you get stuck because of it at least it's light. Read Full Review
