Brett Turcotte took home the Pro Open checkered flag in the World Powersports Association (WPSA) Minnesota Series on Jan. 6, 2008.

The race, which took place at Quadna Mountain Park in Hill City, Minn., is the final tune-up for the WPSA national tour event in Shakopee, Minn.

Dennis Eckstrom, Polaris, and Blair Morgan, Ski-Doo, won five of the six preliminary races and looked poised to duel it out for first place, but Turcotte piloted his Ski-Doo across the finish line in first. Eckstrom managed to finish second, while Morgan settled for third. Ian Hayden and Garth Kaufman were fourth and fifth, giving Ski-Doo four of the top five finishes.

Ski-Doo did not fare as well in Pro Super Stock, as Artic Cat riders Carl Schubitzke and Dan Ebert finished 1-2. Eckstrom crossed the finish line in third. Arctic Cat’s Mathew Piche was fourth and Paul Bauerly, Ski-Doo, finished fifth.

Bossum earns double gold in Wisconsin

Arctic Cat’s Rob Boussum swept the pro classes at the WPSA Wisconsin Series in Mercer, Wisc.

Mike Kieper, Arctic Cat, finished second to Bossum in Pro Super Stock. Parker Brown, Polaris, won all three preliminary races, but had to settle for third in the final.

With Bossum winning again in Pro Open, Ben Deaton, Ski-Doo, and Kieper were second and third.

Ski-Doo dominates in New York

Dave Allard and Ski-Doo were very much in control at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Malone N.Y. for the Rock Maple Racing series.

Ski-Doo finished 1-2-3 in Pro Stock 600, led by Dave Allard. CW Sirjane and Darrin Mees finished second and third.

Allard was tops again in Pro Open, but Polaris’ Danny Poirer crossed the finish line in second to stop another Ski-Doo podium sweep. John O’Malley finished third.

Busy weekend for cross-country racers

It was a little more than business as usual for the United States Cross Country Snowmobile Racing Association as it hosted separate events on Jan. 5 and 6.

Brian Dick, Arctic Cat, won the Pro Open class in Grafton, ND on Saturday, Jan. 5. DJ Ekre, Arctic Cat, finished second, followed by Gabe Bunke, Polaris, in third.

On the same day, Bryan Drydahl, Ski-Doo, took home top prize in Pro 600. Ekre and Bunke again finished 2-3.

After a pair of second place finishes on Saturday, Ekre took the checkered flag in Pro 600 on Sunday in Minto, ND, just a few miles south of Grafton. Dick finished second, while Drydahl was third.

Drydahl picked up his second win in as many days thanks to his efforts in Pro Open. Ekre finished second for a third time and Dick was third.
