Smooth ride, not so much for jumping

Although I do not own an 04', my dad does own an 03'. It has all the exact same components done to it as an 04, and it is amazing. On the trails, it is calm, and relaxing. The rider position of the sled is perfect for trail use, and the bars were perfect for me sitting down when a 1" non-pivot ...riser was added. Not a big difference, but made it just PERFECT. The sled doesn't like jumps, due to it's heavy weight, but when equipped with a Comet 108 EXP clutch, and a custom clutching setup was installed, with a custom x-pipe, R1 camshaft installed, and a few other goodies here and there, such as porting. Cranking out 200+ hp with just these little mods, on 91 octane, and a 1.5" track, it had all the power you needed for 30" of powder. Just grab the throttle and hold on tight. The sled has since got the stock exhaust and clutching put back on, as well as the stock cam shaft. Now it is down to about 155hp, but is still more than plenty. I also put on Mountain Performance a-arms to strengthen the front end and lose some weight. I also have a set of Ohilins piggyback shocks, and an Ad-Boivin Expert X rear suspension to make this sled much better off trail. Smooth, reliable, and fuel efficient. I own and personally have maintained my 04, since new. Over 17k miles, original engine. Agree with how the first review was rated.



HOWEVER, CAUTION WHEN SWAPPING PARTS AND WITH CLUTCHING!



COMET-DO NOT USE!!! Even though the Comet 108-4post can adequately handle the power of these sleds, it CA...N NOT handle the centrifugal force produced by these high RPM engines. Can't recall comets exact RPM limit. But, I know the stock genesis 150 engine reaches around 1,000RPM's over. More importantly, the torque curve is still producing efficient at this engine speed.

Most parts are exactly the same for both years, just do your homework, as a very small number of parts may not be direct replacements. Or, may cause electrical glitches... BUT, the 03 and 04 models are not exact copies. The second year for the RX-1(04') received over 100 changes after their initial 03' debut. Many of these changes were insignificant and subtle. Over 99% of parts for these years are interchangeable. Others are simple electrical improvements, making operation more user friendly. The 03's hot grips default to the highest temperature setting, automatically. The rider must adjust, each and every time, when less heat is desired. In 04', the last temp setting is "saved" and does not reset to default after restarting. Read Full Review
