Arctic Cat, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling about 3,000 snowmobiles due to a fire hazard.

The recall involves 2009 Arctic Cat Z1 Turbo, Z1 Turbo Sno Pro, and TZ1 Turbo models. According to the recall notice, oil can leak into the engine compartment, which poses a fire hazard to consumers. These snowmobiles, which were manufactured in the United States, were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide from June 2008 through July 2009 for between $12,500 and $14,300.

Arctic Cat has received 33 reports of oil leaks, including eight vehicle fires. The Thief River Falls, Minn. manufacturer says that there have been no reports of fuel leakage from the tank wearing against the engine. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers are asked to stop using these snowmobiles immediately and contact their local Arctic Cat dealer to schedule a free repair. Registered owners have already been directly notified about this recall by mail.
