Call me an Ex Polaris Man

This Yamaha rocks, never thought I'd utter those words. It's got looks, power, and ride. Bought it Nov 2009, used with 2,000 miles. I've done several 14 hour rides now and it's never let me down. I actually used it to aid broke down sleds(both Polaris) on the trail and pull them into town. She's ...up to 3,200 miles now, and hasn't given me any regets on switching manufactures. It a bit colder of a ride without the fareings and front end of a polaris, but an extra layer sloves that. The reverse lever is 10 times easier to deal with than the push button of Polaris, and the engine and electric start seems much less tempermental that the Polaris that I was used to. Great reliable sled

I got this sled two winters ago and as most Yamaha people know the reliability has been great. Reliable is number one in my books and Yamaha delivers this time and time again.

My last trip we had two mkz's run hot and blow their motors. I was able to keep up with them all trip with out and issues... even tho they were on newer machines 2009's (This was mostly hard pack and trail conditions)
The sled is comfortable and has lots of low end power and acceleration. The sled is easy on gas and has a bigger tank than the 2008, 2009 ...
The sled is not bad on the bumps but the light sleds will be able to out pro form
on rough trails

Now the bad news
4 strokes are heavy :(
if and when you get stuck you may need help to get out. The 1.25 lug will help but I feel the best setup for the Nytro is the 1.75 lub and 144 track on the 2013, the 1.25 and 121 track just does not cut it off trail, unless you running on hard pack.

Darting/Turning
I have had some issues with darting and turning last winter but my runners were at end of life so that may have been the issue.
I have just upgrade to the new tuner ski to see if all control issue will go away.
I do believe this ski will solve a lot of Yamaha sled issues

As a side note
I have not had any issues with running hot or Hyfax issues and I run in hard pack all the time with no scratches
but just a FYI Yamaha has a new High Temp Hyfax that can withstand very high temp.
I think they make them for all sleds not just Yamaha's

If roller over or on its side the engine oil can start to leak out, not overly fast but I would try to get it back on the skies as fast as you can or you may need to top up the oil

Another small issues
The windshield gives very little protection against the cold so suit up good for long or cold days

so to sum up
Great reliable sled (starts and goes every time)

Great for trail riding and with the new tuner ski will solve any darting and turning issues

Can handle rough trails without to much issues (will not be as good as the lighter ski doo's but you can pass them when they break down)


Not a deep powder sled
even to say it would be okay at trail breaking would be a stretch
(The 1.25 lug and 121 track and the heavy 4 stroke is just not a good setup for powder or trail breaking)

I am not disappointed in my purchase and am upgrading the track with studs and as said early new turner skies

As my buddies are putting new motors in I think I can treat my to a upgrade for this year :)

Amazing sled

I bought this sled last year with 4,400 miles. The sled is just great, Performance is there for the 120 hp, such a smooth ride with the fox floats. Quiet but sounds good. Looks amazing feels amazing when you are riding it. For a heavier sled too, I have to say it goes very well in 2, 2 and half feet... of snow to 3. It is heavy but that all gets put in the back of your mind when you are riding it, a great choice and good on gas I would say I get around 20-22 mpg. Also on last note I would have to say I can ride this sled all day, and All night, It is just so damn comfy. Read Full Review

Great sled

I hade my Nytro new 2006 and still love it but on a new after market hand grip warmer and that's all I needed for warm hands and it is a great sled power and speed all u need starts every time Read Full Review

I have owned this sled for 4 years and I have some ups and downs with it. First off the skies need to be changed to the new tuner skies or a good c&a. The tuner ski makes the darting go away and the mountain c&a makes it a lot better off trail. The c&a makes it harder to stair but it ...is worth not getting stuck. This sled is a trail sled 100% very little off trail. It is very heavy (as a 4 stroke). On the good side the sled is very much trouble free. Does not overheat easy and no issues with break downs.
